What is seniority?

According to the Labor Code, seniority in employment is considered to be “the period during which a person has worked as an employee, regardless of the type of employment contract and the way the work is remunerated”.

How can you find out ONLINE how long you have worked and if your employer has paid your pension contributions?

You can also check your seniority online. As of this year, the National House for Public Pensions has updated its e-services, so you can now check online how long you have worked and whether your employer has paid your pension contributions.

Any employee in Romania can create a user account on the website of the National House of Public Pensions (CNPP) to find out how much seniority they have accrued for their state pension. Once you have created an account, you can quickly find out your accumulated seniority, presented either as a monthly or annual statement.

The National House of Public Pensions (CNPP) is a public institution of national interest, with legal personality, a specialized body of the central public administration that administers the public pension system.

You can also see if your employer has paid your pension contribution

Also online, on the platform of the National Public Pension House, you can also see if your employer has paid your pension contribution.

The National House of Public Pensions has improved its electronic services so that a wealth of information can be obtained without having to go to your local office.

In addition to pension applications, active contributors (those who are still employed) can obtain information:

  • on the data in the employment records
  • annual and monthly periods of probation starting from April 2001
  • information from D112 declarations submitted by employers
  • information on transfers to PILON II private pensions
  • information on the Community pension
  • information on debts relating to levy of execution
  • information on the financial statement

All this information on contribution periods, i.e. the verification of the employer’s payment of pension contributions, is all the more important as from September 1, 2021 the amount of pension that pensioners will receive will take into account only the contributions, i.e. only the actual payments to the pension funds will be taken into account.
