The Senate has tacitly adopted a bill that provides for one day off for parents on the first day of the school year for preschool, primary, and middle school levels. This initiative belongs to PSD Senator Claudiu-Daniel Catană, who emphasizes that the first day of school is an important moment, and the presence of parents is essential for the emotional support and adaptation of the child.

Currently, parents are forced to take leave or get permission from work to attend the festivities, with some employers refusing or penalising those who are late.

The project will be debated and voted on in the Chamber of Deputies, which has the final say in this matter, in order to become law. The deadline for debate and voting was December 3.

In conclusion, the project represents a step toward recognizing the importance of parental involvement in children’s education. If it is finally adopted, parents will have a legal right to participate in school opening ceremonies without the pressure of taking time off work or negotiating with employers.
