From 1 October 2023, according to GD no. 900 of 28.09.2023, the minimum gross basic salary per country guaranteed in payment increases from 3,000 lei to 3,300 lei gross per month, for a normal work schedule of 165.333 hours per month, representing 19.960 lei/hour. This change represents a 10% increase compared to September 2023, the corresponding net salary will be 2,079 lei with an increase of 181 lei compared to September 2023.

According to the Ministry of Labour, the increase in the minimum basic wage to 3,300 lei will benefit approximately 1.5 million employees, which is about 28% of the total number of active employees.

According to the decision, the provisions do not apply to the agricultural sector and the food industry. The minimum wage in construction remains at 4,000 lei gross (3,150 lei net), and the minimum wage in agriculture and the food industry remains at 3,000 lei gross (2,362 lei net).

Let’s not forget that raising the country’s minimum gross basic wage always has a much more complex impact, with a boomerang effect for the whole economy. The increase in the country’s minimum gross basic wage also has an impact on other obligations relating to this wage: the contribution for unpaid disabled persons, the annual basis for calculating social security contributions in the case of self-employed persons/intellectual property rights, the ceiling on the amount of social security and health insurance contributions payable by individuals earning non-wage income, etc.
